Most taper processes are a cold-strike process that involves friction and pressure through dies and extrusion. In most cases, taper machining involves a four-mode rotary hammering operation. The larger diameter raw pipe is fed into the tapering pipe machine and molds which are shaped to the tapered pipe design. As the tube enters, the die rotates around the workpiece, which causes approximately 3,000 strokes per minute to slowly hammer the tube to reduce its diameter.
